Permaculture in Albuquerque: Center for Action and Contemplation

What is CAC? This is a center for spiritually-based activism for people interested in social service ministries, social spirituality and peaceful, non-violent social change. We rent the center for our classes. CAC is located in the South Valley of Albuquerque, a place rich in agricultural tradition and land-based life-style. A residential-scale compound of buildings wraps around a beautiful large courtyard, where many of our classes take place in the shade of mature cottonwoods. A rich herb garden and beeyard next door offer additional learning opportunities. This class combines permaculture concepts useful for urban, sub-urban and rural settings, due to the unique location of CAC, bordering Albuquerque metropolitan area, large traditional farms and land-based villages that surround it.
Logistics:Out of town students can rent a guest room at the center. Full kitchen is available.

Seeds of Change Farm in San Juan Pueblo/El Guique

What is Seeds of Change Farm? A ten acre organic farm located in the Rio Grande Valley was started with a simple mission: to help preserve biodiversity and promote sustainable, organic agriculture. The farm is the headquarters of the international seed business with focus in
in cultivating and disseminating an extensive range of open-pollinated, organically grown, heirloom and traditional vegetable, flower and herb seeds. Seeds of Change is on the front line of preservation of traditional varieties from the Americas and treasured heirlooms from abroad, many of which are in danger of being lost due to the rapid consolidation within the seed industry and the decline of indigenous agriculture and seed-saving knowledge.
Logistics: There is no camping on the grounds of Seeds of Change; students can camp at an organic farm next door. Other options include renting a room at several local hotels (Comfort Inn ; Days Inn, or Inn at the Delta), or Ohkay Owinge Casino.  In addition, there is a modest RV parking & camp ground in Espanola (20 min. drive), Ohkay RV Park and Fishing Lakes (tel. 505-753-5067).  We have limited guest rooms available for rent from local residents; reservations and downpayments must be made in advance if you are choosing to stay in a guest room/house. Please contact us to discuss your needs & options. In the interests of community building and group dynamics and in the spirit of this class, we encourage people to camp and use the guest house option instead of hotels, which are not environmentally friendly. Read Seeds of Change Farm Student Handbook to get detailed information on all other pertinent logistics.
