SCOTT PITTMAN , founder of the Permaculture Institute, has been teaching permaculture courses since 1985 in over 18 countries on four continents. Scott is known for his foundational work in establishing permaculture movement in the US Southwest, for which he received a Community Achievement Award from the Permaculture Institute of Australia. For six years Scott co-taught with the founder of permaculture, Bill Mollison. National Guard Learns Permaculture Skills to Take to Afghanistan

In May 2010 2-45th Agriculture Development Team of Oklahoma National Guard traveled to New Mexico to train with the Permaculture Institute in all things related to sustainable farming, orchard care, animal husbandry, landscape ecology and much more. This was done as part of their preparation for deployment to Afghanistan to “assist and instruct” locals in their effort to revive traditional land cultivation in the region.
